A Spiritual Place

Somewhere along the Big Sur coast along Highway 1, there is a little pull over gas station, a coffee shop. restaurant and a spiritual garden. The energy is good here, tucked away on the other side of the cliffs from the roaring Pacific Ocean. The cliffs, you took pictures of them at every pull-out along the Highway.

You saw the cows grazing in the glorious meadows that overlook the ocean, felt the breeze finally reaching shore after traveling through the trees, rustling the leaves in a forest in Siberia, down the planes of Mongolia that altered the breeze from the butterfly that flapped its wings.

This very wind, continues soaring through the Asian metropolises and across the endless ocean. It picks up speed as it reaches landfall, the waves crash along the shore and the breeze scurries up the cliff wall to pound you with the freshest air in the world as you exit your car door and scream a shriek of freedom, yeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

My Transcendent Window: An Essay

In the morning, almost directly out of bed, I make my coffee. Sometimes I jolt out of bed thinking I've slept in too long, the tea kettle is full and whistling, like a locomotive arriving at a small town in Nebraska, yes, I have that obnoxious Alessi kettle.

If you don't have an Alessi fetish like I do, the kettle provides the hot water maker with two tones of boiling alarms similar to that of 1860 freight engines. If you don't get there in time it drowns out the sirens, buses and banter from outside any busy urban intersection. I work as a bartender at nights, and have my days free to write. Hire me, and I'll write it, say it, sell it, blog it, and create it into whatever your needs may be--or not and let me dissolve into the masses like everyone else, holding my flag of "living the dream" high and planting it in my studio apartment rooftop compost bin.My flag waves vigorously on the border between Western Addition and Nopa, blanching the neighborhood with tasteless fear. I've ground the coffee and rigged my primitive get up ready for the obnoxious boiling water to be poured flawlessly over the old school filter and holder system I have. Maybe its a lack of space in my "sunny" apartment, maybe its because I'm somewhat old fashioned or maybe its because I've bought at least 6 different coffee machines in my life and they all sucked and somehow I don't have one anymore. Nevertheless, its probably a combination of these factors that unite to produce my current cup of deliciously bold, italic and underlined coffee. This semi compulsive but not nearly obsessive and yet a bit simplistically intricate method of preparing coffee has become a current trend in San Francisco. But really, is brewing your cup of coffee one cup at a time really a trend? My dad used to make it this way in the middle of the Windrivers with a gas stove and a frying pan, battered and rationed grounds from the bottom of his 67 pound backpack 8 miles into the middle of the wilderness. However, this philosophy, in San Francisco, as far as trends are concerned, allegedly, started by Phil of Philz coffee. As a long time coffee fanatic, not surprisingly Philz one of the first places I went to when I moved to SF. Yes, 97% of the reason I moved to SF was because I was certain they had good coffee, and good coffee shops. This is not lie. After Philz I used to treck my way to Ritual in the mission, with their coffee mug and logo that seems to resemble the hammer a sickle, this revolutionary coffee was idyllic; from their short espressos that taste like a bowl of peeled citrus to their $5.25 quadruple mochas, tattooed baristas and foreign money on the wall. I should have wrote a coffee manifesto there, but I wasn't cool enough then, and now I work across the street and am probably even less cool. I might have been cool enough when I became unemployed and couldn't afford those mochas and "citrusy" espressos, but would scrounge up some BART money and find a corner to sit in and write, all day, and not search for work. I remember, during those unemployed times we all took part in circa 2007-2008, I treated myself to a Ritual mocha on my birthday/. I took it and sat in Dolores park, maybe it was a Monday, or a Tuesday, never-the-less the park wasn't saturated with the Sunday crowd, moreover, sprinkled with the "industry" crowd, and at this point in time there wasn't much industry because it was 2007 and we were all more or less unemployed. I sat on that grassy knoll and saw a man down the hill on the other side of the sidewalk, his inner light shining. I finished my coffee, took my shoes off to feel the earth and meditated. A phone call from my dad interrupted my transcendence, but because it was my birthday, I answered. He wished me happy birthday and I assured him the job search was going well--it wasn't. I was enjoying myself as a true vagabond, blossoming in some sort of new age spirituality that I was just starting to comprehend. I had just healed my broken foot with herbs, salts, meditation and healing touch and was certain spirituality could conquer capitalism, it didn't. From my Transcendent Divisadero corner window, I have strategically placed an Ikea shelf on the window sill and watch the flawless camaraderie of neighborhood shopkeepers, distributors and enjoy this view of utmost "cititude" of the quaint urban atmosphere this humble abode has provided for me. In order to achieve this living space, I've developed a strong work ethic in an industry that coincides with my lifestyle very well. As a San Francisco barkeep, my job stretches two neighborhoods, I talk to over 300 people a week, concoct more than 400 cocktails, entertain diners, create libations, organize glassware, count money and provide change. "Change always comes from within," a poker player buddy (also a bartender) always told me. Change does come from within, sometimes, for me at least, within the cash register and sometimes, after a good cup of home brewed coffee one cup at a time, change can come from within your soul.

A little time off...Spiritualism..."Clarity at its finest..."

To all those forgotten blogs, blogposts and procrastinated individuals...This may be a letter to myself...So many blogs that I leave neglected with videos that don't fit the formatting of the page. broken links, misspellings, unedited articles, unmonitored crap, but does someone really stumble across this? And if so, what do they think, damn, this guy should have really controlled his thoughts more, or, damn this guy has some good thoughts here and there, too bad he can;t seem to develop his clarity.

Ahhh, clarity, so many professors told me to focus on my clarity. Concise.

What about conscience thought?

What about unconscious thought?

What about spiritual thoughts that manifest themselves through my words, on pages for all to see? Or for only me to see. In a form of unedited nonsensical patterns, words and phrases...lost in the digital world, its so cut and dry here, you have to speak its code for it to understand you correctly. But we have to embrace our world and this moment. Right now is truly the moment we are in, to think is to manifest energy into the Universe...from one energy to the next, evolving lifetimes, millions and billions of years, infinite travel, the Universe is all ABUNDANT and AROUND US! It is engulfing us in its infinite vortex!

The world is manifesting with protests, and awakenings happening at an alarming rate, but seriously, why did it take this long? The Earth is Evolving.

How the hell come isn't there renewable energy for all? How the hell come we can't all just get along?

Utopian ideas don;t work because power corrupts.

Does history repeat itself?

Do we learn from our mistakes?

Does anyone really know a TRUE history?

Tap into your collective energy and let history guide you through the present into a Beautiful Future!

Its been 10 years since I first applied for my passport. I was 16 and going to Europe with my soccer team. I remember it being my goal to fill all the pages. About 6 different versions of a Brazilian Visa, Paraguayan "Visas" and numerous stamps, I retire my first 10 year history of an International Vagabond. We must forge on to places still left to be discovered, white sandy beaches, mountaintops, hole in the wall shops and bars, conversations in village squares, flat tires on back road in foreign lands, organic coffee raised on sacred land: its about the journey and life is the destination! Thank you for traveling with me and I look forward to seeing you on the road less traveled.

Oh Tens--A New Decade!

Its too hard not to reminisce...I saw a SF Examiner front page headline that read, "Best and worst music of the decade." For real?! 2000 was just 10 years ago?! Y2k, that was before the Twin Towers were hit, when all us "Academia Liberals" based Bush for not being as good of an "Education President" as he promised in his campaigns Yeah, a decade. It was probably not even a decade ago that VH1 premiered its first "I Love the 80's" and we all (or at least all of us 'Generation X and Y'ers") remembered how oddly exciting it was to grow up in such a "strange" time. Our parents lived during the Cold War and we were all taught to hate Communism, grow up and go to college and get a decent job...But as we all went to college, those disgruntled and mildly "Academically Liberal" professors taught us how to view the governmental system in a different light, or many different lights, some even being Socialism and heaven forbid...Communism! Politics are a slower representation that what the populous feels. It is then put into a bureaucratic system that defines laws according to the times. However, as we get further advanced, our laws stay put, old and outdated and in order to correct something, it takes years of litigation, lobbying, money and proper execution to actually put something into legislation. But alas, that is our system, and I am happy to be free, able to make my money and travel, study the politics of the world, be an ambassador to whatever or whoever you may encounter on a day to day basis. And to this, a decade marked by academia, travel, leisure and a step towards change, I salute thee 2000's and welcome the Tens--just try not to call next year "Oh Ten."

Combining Favorites

As a kid, I always dreamed of the store that would specialize in Pizza and Milkshakes. A hole in the wall place that would serve greasy new york style slices where you fold them and the grease drips out the back served up with a think chocolate shake where there is more deliciousness in the silver tin than the traditional milkshake glass. As an adult, I still crave that combo, but I have finally found two of my new favorite things combined: plants and coffee.

Out in the Bayshore district one of SF's best coffee shops, Ritual Roasters, has teamed up with a budding new garden designer, Flora Grubb. Not only can you shop for succulents and drink your succulent mocha decorated with latte art, but you can hang out and chat about the knowledgeable staff and learn about vertacle gardens. I sit here and enjoy my blueberry green tea with a squeeze of my friend's backyard garden lemon listening to a 1995 CD of Govi, a Spanish Acoutsic Guitar Afficionado. My girlfriend's Japanese Chin stares fictitiously out the Oakland French Door windows onto my backyard laden with stencils, fold out chairs, agave plants, 3 strands of mint in a garden to spice up my culinary and cocktail life, a compost pile, and 2-7 alley cats on a given day. As my tea steeps I peel a clemintine and bite into its sweet and small delicious fruit that seems reminiscent of my Grandma' house in Southern California we would visit every spring break. Living in Oakland, I can see all the Californiaisms come into play as I am simply living my life. My bamboo plant grows in my living room carefully placed next to my dollar store candle, buddha board and incense chamber I purchased at the African essential oils store. They are meticulously are placed in that order to represent the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water and Air. It is my line of zen, where I often stare down from my favorite seat at our table. It is the perfect spot that lies in direct harmony of how I see the energy flow in my living room. My brother, a talented DJ, has provided the room with a top notch sound system that circulates the energy and pings all of the senses to make our house come alive. Its almost ironic because I I like to utilize that system to hear more precisely my collection of New Age music. These symphonic melodies transport my mind and my thoughts to wander the universe in a constant meditation. Whether its in my living room writing a sentimental self-reflection piece, or chatting with a club owner about getting the energy level up at our party in a San Francisco hotspot, I live my life to feel these sensations, frequencies in energy and nuances of a collective universe that humanity has eternally searched for. Often dubbed by religion or spirituality, there is much more to be perceived than what man is capable of understanding--thus generations of soul seekers have labeled it God. God is a simplistic rendition of an omniscient being that is given this all knowing, all loving title to explain phenomenon that occur in our Universe. And thus, God, in one word challenged and contemplated on all levels, not just one word, a vetted word.

World Town is a fusion of ideas embodying our motto of 'an interactive global musical audio visual compassionate resistance.' It serves as an entity evolving beyond an capacity I can only dream of. Conceptualized by listening to M.I.A. while burning a fire in my backyard, it was the perfect hybrid of my brother's talents as a DJ and nightclub promoter and my background in International Affairs with passion to create positive social change in the world. We started with small parties in San Francisco and now aspire to put on events anywhere and everywhere in the world. From World Town pool parties in Miami, large scale benefits, rooftops in Dubai and World Town Waikiki for New Years 2010--we are exactly what the name entails--always supporting a good cause.

This Saturday, April 25th, 2009 World Town comes full circle and 'Becomes the Cure' as we host a benefit event for the O Campaign at Terra in SF. The O Campaign's mission statement is: A non-profit campaign forging alliances between the public, academia, corporations, and institutions in effort to efficiently channel resources for high-paced development of cutting-edge research in cancer prevention, while simultaneously spurring translation and delivery of innovative treatments to the public. With over 4.6 million members, The O Campaign serves as the largest social media cause on the internet.

The O Campaign has teamed up with World Town and Thalas Entertainment Group to put together a large scale benefit party to launch their grassroots fundraising programs. By doing so we intend to get the word out about their 501c3 federally registered non-profit status and raise funds in a transparent manner. For Become the Cure we rented out Terra, one of SF's most sophisticated gallery spaces and have orchestrated thousands of dollars in donations for the event. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Wednesday, April 22nd, with a display of 10 to 20 meteors per hour over the northern hemisphere. Occasionally, Earth passes through a dense region of the comet's tail and rates surge five- to ten-fold. In 1982, for instance, observers were surprised by an outburst of 90 Lyrids per hour. Because Thatcher's tail has never been mapped in detail, the outbursts are unpredictable and could happen again at any time. Im in a loud coffee shop and can only see the image of the Sad Panda wandering the streets of NY's financial district. My thought implications surround the uneasiness of a financial system crumbled, capitalism confined to the dusty corners of a rusty hinged box hanging over the depths of an ominous ocean waiting to swallow it up. As the economy crumbles, what is left? LIFE! For the first time some people are seeing the true beauty in living, the sunshine and tasting food, shopping at farmers markets and reconnecting with family. For others, like me, who never joined the corporate sector, I am not necessarily happy to see it failing, but motivated to pick up the pieces. What didn't work? What does work? How can a whole race, or leaders of a race work so hard and so fast, developing technology, money and finance and a capitalistic ideology that emerged dominant in the world to no ultimate end. We must analyze what truly makes us happy. We all need to eat and have a roof over our heads, and we see how this is becoming more important as these notions become unclear for the first time. Philosophical ideologies that tried and failed, the way the world works, we don't learn from history, we simply let it repeat itself. Honest ideas and an honest approach to love and happiness, compassion. Its a hard idea to grasp because we can distract ourselves from it so easily. This is not a survival of the fittest, its letting love prevail.

We Are World Town.

As we see the economic and political structure collapse around us and the elected officials have no idea how to fix it, we need to understand our role as a generation of innovators filled with new ideas, motivation and the capacity to fix the problems that have been cultivating for generations.

We can no longer afford to attack our enemies with conventional war to change a political structure that is not mastered to begin with. We can no longer afford to finance one enemy to help take down another, and then pretend to let the enemy go when they turn our back on us. There should no longer be this theory of enemy, conflict and war. We are World Town.

We can no longer afford to watch our savings disappear into thin air and then hold no one accountable. Hard working men and women raised in the generation of glory that emerged victorious as a powerful ideology that flourished, until now. A generation that dedicated their lives to this belief and raised our generation under this notion of financial prosperity, consumerism, technology and work. And for what? Depression?

Countries came and went as old ideologies were crushed into the books of history and new ideologies were laughed at and pushed aside.

Until now...Because, We Are World Town.

We are World Town because we see the way the world works. We are no longer a country with patriotism or a culture with defined values. We are a world intermingling with millions of communities, cultures, languages, religions, beliefs, values and traditions. We must unite these amazing nuances of our collective human race. We must work together instead of as an individual or a corporate or governmental machine. We must encourage artists, read poetry, raise our hands at our leaders and speak out so that we can be HEARD! This is our time to pick up the rubble of the world that is made of sticks, we must show the world that we are even better than a house of bricks. Spiritually enlightened people are arising everywhere. From once formerly enlightened individuals that may have been hippies, or even earlier the ones that fought in World War II for our country's ideals, to the hippies that were oppressed by the then government that the former patriots fought so desparately to follow that ideal...but their fight was gone once the government took over. The corrupt individuals in the government taking an ideal of freedom and democracy and utilizing it to their benefit at the plunder of the world. The idea of capitalism and every man for himself flourished in an age of seclusion and despair brought on by the smashing of ideals an realistic new age thinkers. This theory, this new age theory, has not been lost, it just comes and goes with the times, naturally. Not a human created time, but a time of the Universe. We are all made of up organic matter, to the sub atomic so small and minute that no scientist can comprehend to the spiritualist who can't even begin to comprehend the vastness of our universe. Even there one does not begin to understand its infiniteness by defining it with one word, you cannot call a Universe our universe because that puts limit on it, so thus in order for their to be a word that people can understand, we call him God, or Allah, or Buddha or Dar Far, Krishna...something with ideals and identity so that people can understand, put into their practice and become closer to this alleged God, when they are failing to grasp the larger picture of it all. As followers of God in any faith, from New Age thinkers to religious Fundementalists, if anyone has had a so called spiritual awakening, we need to combine forces and bond together, in this meditative space that we have created, the leaders of each spirituality hence come forth and show yourselves. I am me and I am here to bridge this gap, this lack of hope and understanding in the human soul. We cannot begin to comprehend the infinite, but we must succumb to its awesome power and let it move you, do not force it. It took technology this long to grant us the ability to prove it wrong, but what is this instrument if we cannot make music. It is the ability to interact in between different times and space, follow our dreams in the persuit of happiness, the founders of our country felt it, and founded our country, in order for me to be here right now with the ability and knowledge to create even grander ideal and ideals expand our understanding of not knowing, and accept exactly that. Fear is the first and foremost flaw of man and his relationship with Spirituality. One cannot succumb to the divine forces unless they conquer their fear. And fear is no based on one's fright, but the inability to fight against the oppression of the ideals that are now failed.

All societies that have flourished have failed, but ideals emerge to forge a new land and new hope...Conquering fear and embracing love is the key to enlightenment...

Enlightenment is a profound topic that most of us, as humans, are attempting to grasp, and the ones that can grasp it are attempting to achieve. In my opinion enlightenment is a combination of a few key aspects, one of them being the elimination of fear. Fear is not simply what one may think it is as in scared of heights, or fear of spiders, but moreover a lack of understanding ourselves on a spiritual level. This world around us exists to make us feel comfortable and ease our fears, create a reality where we can function in a society that makes us "happy." However, I feel that not many people have actually experienced true happiness, because they do not know what it is. The video talks about fear and love, and how love vibrates on a higher frequency. If we eliminate our fear and are in tune to love, we can feel a higher vibration of our self, soul and spirit connected with the oneness of the universe and the energy that surrounds up and makes up who we really are...

The distant fog horns are drowned out be BART trains departing for opposite destinations as I lie in bed with my destination unknown. I wake up stretch and rip off the last 3 pages of my daily zen one a day calendar. "Everything is simple, everything is not unless it is, but it isn't" It might as well be. I dust off the dirt from my jeans I wore from the previous day where an over ambitious Golden Retriever pounced his muddy paws on my tattered jeans. His owner called him back after I was malled with enthusiasm and hope of throwing the ball down the subtle incline for him to vehemently chase after. Without complaint I brushed off my pants only to muddy my hand. Today would be similar as the fog turns to mist and the pants are still have an earthy toned crust to them. I left the house in a hurry as the shower was silently occupied for a moment too long for me to wait for a shower and a proper start to my day. A fleeting ambition and desire to write in my favorite coffee shop, a slight inclination that I might end up at the one down the block that has superior coffee but worse ambiance. I drove past the competition first, tempted by their pristine espresso but ultimately determined to go to the destination where I frequent when times are dreary. No job, no money...but for some reason I've never been happier. Maybe its the prospect of an ideal that I have dedicated my life, and is now manifesting itself. Maybe its the love and support from my best friend who turned lover and is still my best friend. Maybe its the inspiration from my newly acquired zen one a day calendar, or as my lover would say, "It is what it is." Maybe its not.

I sit here typing this narrative with the ambition to write a poem about the foggy day and the BART trains. Driving over the bay bridge in non awkward silence listening to NPR on a precise low volume where one cannot hear what they drone on talking about. The distinctive drone of whole hearted voice pounds your inner soul as you make out the D's and S's at the end of his words. Just like that word, words. Say it slow and focus on your annunciation and really pronounce the end of these and those words. Words that drone into distance and distinction of subtle yet unique times that manifest themselves into something glorious, divinity.

Later that evening he talks about God with a leader of a Christian church who seems to have an understanding of theology and spirituality that fits the bill of this century. Amazing. I arrive back at my house and stay in my car to hear what the man has to say about God, Love and Compassion and am ultimately satisfied with what i have heard to neither make an opinion or disagree--which for me is quite an accomplishment. The knowledge is out there, but he says that we, as humans, cannot comprehend it--which, if there is any solace to sitting in my car those extra minutes, inspires me to prove him wrong.

This is on of those things that is like a hall of mirrors. A legend is someone or something that never dies. But if it wasnt a legend, but never died, would it still be a legend? What if a legend died and some had considered it a legend, but then it isn't classified as a legend because it died. What is death? How does one determine the difference between life and death, dark and light? "Light" is a word created by our human language to represent just what it is, but what is it? (People talk about light omitted by stars, or even more spiritually, an inner light, and furthermore, enlightenment...) What if light and dark were reversed, but the meanings the same? In daytime it would be considered dark and at night, light. Infinite possibilities like looking in a hall of mirrors. Looking, you see yourself as many times as possible, but yet only one animate object of yourself exists. What if thre were more? How would you know? We don't. Maybe we live separate lives constantly, but put the out of our memory. Maybe that is the answer to al the questions we pose in the time we know we live. Why did my house get caught up in the flood? Why did they win the lotto and not me?

Each idea can provoke another one, like a chain reaction and so forth and so on, and so on and so on, see you just thought of something, how you wonder how I knew that. Pretty soon we will be at the same stage of thinking, looking deeper and deeper only to find that the depth is infinite, but I have to sleep, where infinite seems surrreal and real is unconsciously unfathomable, uncontrollable that when you wake up and recognize a deja vous or many deja vous in occurrences so common that the word coincidence seems frail upon other notions of spiritual syncronicities that take place in our world, our reality, the one that we created and are living in now, in this time and space, yet to be rendered true by other affirmations that seem looming and oh so present. Live in the present, this is the best present. To all, ones who teach and harness love and compassion, from the ones who seek it and feel it and aren't quite sure what exactly it is...Reach beyond your comfort zone, step one the sage...whether you are scared or not, you will only have this chance right now, if you fail to burst your bubble of comfort, so will the rest of us, it is a daunting fact and our destiny can wait, but why wait no more?

Teach compassion, feel love...for yourself and your inner light, because we are all connected. Real energy resonates. Be yourself and leave your fear behind, you will encounter more that is more fulfilling to conquer and thus, you will grow beyond your comprehension of a simple scared hermit.

Paper: Sartre Colonialism and Neocolonialism

The quote inspired by a collection of photographs by Cartier-Bresson is the catalyst for delineating Sartre’s existential political views that shed light on his take on Marxism. Sartre looks at the true nature of people—that we are all the same race of humans. However, society and both extreme sides of ideology, both right and left, have done tremendous things to manipulate how people think about our fellow humans. That, in turn, has brought on a long history of oppression, hatred, animosity or whatever it may be that bring people to exploit, divide and conquer other people and territory—even in capitalistic, free states. It is taught from birth, rhetoric to disagree and work against other people. For me, I can draw a parallel in my lifetime as our generation grew up at the end of the cold war, and thus all people associated with communism were evil, violent and wrong. For Sartre it was the Chinese, a similar scenario. However, expanding my intellect and studying philosophies, history and paying attention to the needs and wants of people it becomes evident that Sartre makes a very relevant and rational point that; “We are all the same, all of us at the heart of our human condition.” Sartre’s philosophy has pertinent arguments that deal with colonization, touching on poverty, social issues, ideology and reform that play an important role in his critique of colonization.

Poverty is one driving cause to the shift of the masses towards communism. On the contrary one can see man that has conquered the world economically, amassing a fortune and only looks out for his own interest—a true capitalist. However, a population of the masses driven to the point where all their land is gone, they have no food, no schools or doctors and overall morale is incredibly low, that leads the masses to believe in collectivization and the need to survive off the means every man can produce. Exploited populations, such as the Muslims in Algeria are quite representative of this, France, used its colonies to enhance its capitalistic tendencies, but did nothing to improve the nation in which it colonized. Sartre argues that poverty is the construct for reform, as is the case for China. We have also seen in Russia, the Bolsheviks were successful because they were able to convince the rural peasants to that they were the best, and most powerful and could suit their needs. In China, the poor scavenge and pillage, but they sustain, and ultimately prevail, keeping China the way it has been for centuries. There is hope in a world full of hopelessness, hope that the communists brought.

This philosophy is represented quite intrinsically when looking at colonization. As Sartre notes, “(Colonization) is a system which was put in place around the middle of the nineteenth century, began to bear fruit in about 1880, and started its decline after the First World War, and is today turning against the colonizing nation (31).” In this case Sartre refers to Algeria and her mother nation France. Colonization came as a product of capitalism—mainly for the allocation of land into the hands of Europeans (some 2,703,000 hectares) for the promotion of it. The system worked because the French could maintain economic superiority and still sell goods back to the Muslims from their stolen land. The French, by dividing up the property in Algeria, forced tribal societies to be broken up, and lines were redrawn in the French’s favor—obtaining a vast population to farm the acquired lands. As Sartre notes, “the logic of the system makes him sacrifice the needs of the native population to those of the French in France (37).” The best example of this is that the stolen land was used to produce wine, and Muslims do not drink wine—thus depriving them of their staple food that was once grown on that land. With that, the endless and vicious cycle of poverty begins.

However, colonization was successful for a long time because the mother nation could impose ideals among the colonized of basic rhetoric such as, “the solitude of liberal individualism” which as Sartre describes as creating the masses but prevents them being conscience by mystifying them with the caricature of their own ideology (41). Give them irrigation, but only to produce what they were producing before in different areas. Give them railroads, but only to move the products swiftly to the ports and then into France, but the simple notion of innovation and construction of a more powerful nation are evident, just not accomplished for the natives.

This will not last though. Sartre argues that reform, in any sense, will ultimately end up in the benefit of the French. So if there cannot be reform, then what? As a Frenchman and an existentialist Sartre sees the morality issues at hand. He sees how colonization has manifested itself into exactly the opposite of what they were fighting for10 years ago against the Nazis. Thus, as an area that has been exploited, one cannot simply abandon it, nor can it hold on because the native people are crying out for help. So where is the help going to come from? “People who talk of abandonment of Algeria are imbeciles. There is no abandoning of what we never owned (47).” And thus the oppressors, the colonizers become the product of their destiny. Their dehumanizing effects have left an imprint on not only the oppressed society, but their own society as well.

It takes a man to see a man, and if that is established, then he should no longer view him with oppressive eyes. However, this is all too common, even in our systems that we label as facets of freedom, happiness and progression, all of those come at the cost of others who feel the exact opposite. “Our leaders go as far as to undermine freedom of expression, to hide the truth,” but what truth is there if everything we are taught to believe is a lie (55)? How can we be ones to judge good and evil if all of it is presented as good, and only when the evils are so persuasive that the masses congregate to justify their oppressors, only then do we see what harm has been caused for the benefit of ourselves? Sartre’s arguments are valid on the basis that we are all human—all of our hearts beat to the same rhythm of life. At no point should one man not treat another man in any other way. However, dehumanizing effects play a crucial role in the exploitation of a people, in this case the colonies including Algeria. France would not let her go because of issues of pride, but the Algerians finally realized that instead of promoting an ideology, France was simply just demolishing a nation. Poverty and oppression ultimately reign supreme, an oppressed mass of people will not sit quietly forever, and hopefully the oppressors can see they have been wrong, and ultimately succumb to their wits and relinquish what was never theirs in the first place.

We played everything, played the field, played in the mud, danced in our rooms alone with the mirror being about as judgmental as a mirror image of your face...funny how sometimes practicality slaps you in that face...with a leather glove found in your glove box, or a simple act of kindness that puts a smile on your face. Mirrored with mirrored images plastered on infinite hallways in an abyss of hopelessness we find a dangling string of dignity and clasp onto it for dear life. Its not as though we were falling, but held it close hoping for one day in our ample abodes of solitude, someone would reach down and tug on your string. It doesn't matter who, all that matters is that someone else noticed. And thus, you climb back on top, our of the dreary drudges of things unknown, or known too well by your silence. Primitive ambition harnesses your thoughts of emotion as excitement runs rampant like an overdrawn analogy of your infinite childhood imagination. Lurking in th shadows lies a horizon that you can't quite seem to wonder what lays beyond, except of course another horizon, or another summit, or maybe not, thats why we keep walking, walking with a purpose, or maybe not. Maybe we are the purpose, finding balance in seeking, finding pleasure in not knowing, while all the time we know that is the true answer...and then when we arrive and find it, all we lust after is once again the voyage. Set your sails against the wind and paddle up current, this mission has hardly started...bet you HOPED for something that would lead to an end...THERE IS NO END IN SIGHT!

my life is a constant battle between good and evil, trust versus intuition, faith versus fate, coincidence versus randomness...do we know what we are all in for? is there a divine entity that knows what is happening and has a master plan for either a) all of us b) the world c) the universe d) each one individually...i often wonder whether the matrix was correct, when they say that the creators tried to develop a program of a Utopian society, but mankind was unable to accept the program and thus gave us society as we know it...but if there is a divine mission in all of us, where does it end? where does it go? i understand that shitty things need to happen in our lives in order to build strength, character, individuality, etc, and if one keeps doing good things, good things will happen in retrospect. however, i also wonder to what extent mankind's greediest and lust for things that are allegedly evil, hinder the divine proposition, or if those all play into effect. neglect respect. expect, regret. never regret, live in the moment...the moment told me to do so...live for the future, you may miss a moment...trapped in the past, you forget your mission...there needs to be a balance, a peace of mind (or is it piece of mind) a piece or peace of something, internal bliss, acknowledgment of inner truths that we know intrinsically to be true...i cant explain to each and every one of you what i feel...even the people i love most have the hardest time comprehending my experiences...or I have the hardest time really being able to explain...but what i do know, is there is a spirit that lives amongst us, a guide, a mentor, a messenger or guardian angel. a divine energy encompassed in our souls where past lives play into effect, future ones depend on our living and experience, and the way we look and portray ourselves reflects all of the above...god works in mysterious way, i am sure of that...i work in mysterious ways, i am sure of that...i know you work in mysterious way as well, dont be scared, fright is the first and foremost factor that inhibits our true callings, hiding behind what we truly are, what we truly desire, and what will ultimately make the world go round and a better place because of it...think about it...ask yourself...peace, shalom, salaam.

Reforestation is one of the most effective ways to offset the harmful effect of global warming in communities around the world. The Finca Project is non-profit organization dedicated to the recuperation of human and ecological communities in southern Costa Rica through tropical reforestation and multi-cultural, environmental education. By integrating reforestation with agricultural practices, we hope to contribute to the long-term economic sustainability of small-scale farming in Costa Rica, as well as witness the regrowth of tropical rainforests in Central American and around the globe.

If we are in fact constructed of pure energy (energia pura) and matter as we create it is in fact malliable...then what holds us back from stretchig the boundaries that we put on ourselves? We have been conditioned and trained to confine ourselves withing this so-called reality, run by money, greed and lust. When the human mind is capable of so much more, maybe when one realized this truly they can manifest themselves there, and that in turn is a manifestation upon our everyday reality as an 'observer.' So why so many complacent people? Does it need to be taught, or is it an intrinsic question that only few if not anyone can actually find? And if you did find it, it must be so glorious to not share with the rest of the world, or that it does take a certain mental capacity to withstand the mental implications necessary to take the alleged and metaphorical long path to freedom....but the path doesnt have to be so long if you only set your eyes on the ultimate goal, the end of the path and where that end is, is where you want it to lead.

This path led me to my dream come true...

But it wasnt the right time...so we had to go back...

My drink is called Beija Flor:

1 1/2 oz Cabana Cachaça
3/4 oz Mint Infused Simple Syrup
5 Halves Muddled Farm Fresh Strawberries
3 Muddled Blueberries
Squeeze of Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz Raspberry Ginger Brew
Navana Vanilla Cognac Float

Shake vigorously with love, strain over fresh ice in collins glass, garnish with home garden grown fresh Korean medicinal mint sprig.

A Vision of a World full of Happiness: A World Party

World Town is not a party, its a phenomenon. As the first few World Towns in San Francisco have grown from a small party of diverse individuals to last Saturday night where over 1,600 people came and enjoyed flawless music, good energy and the first ever peace minute inside a nightclub, we realize this is real.

I remember sitting in my sophomore dorm room in Washington DC. Having just read Karl Marx for my World History 101 class I was excited for the impending seminar that our professor had scheduled, apparently I was pretty much the only one. Finally having read something of substance to me, I was eager to discuss the philosophy of utopian societies, argue why Communism is not the same as Marxism, and defend the work of a great innovator and thinker. It was a beautiful day and my fellow classmates convinced our otherwise dull yet extremely intelligent and somewhat nerdy professor to hold the seminar outside. Unfortunately for me, this would hinder my spiritedness to debate my coveted book. We sat in a large circle with a nice breeze, but there was cheerleader practice at the soccer field down the hill, and groundskeepers were mowing the lawn up the hill. The circle was a little too big, one classmate couldn't hear another classmate if you were on the other side of the circle, thus you almost had to shout your point if you were discussing the book. And, as sad as it is, I don't think my class was that into the book, no one wanted to shout, no one really even participated in class, so let alone a shouting contest against lawn mowing and cheerleading about a book that we grew up to hate in our capitalistic streamlined rhetoric of an education.

I got back from my class somewhat disappointed. Right then, as I was going over my notes and shaking my head at the lack of stimulation I got from the seminar my roommate, born and raised in Berkeley, California by communist parents, came barreling through the door in his "Kramer-esque" form. Ah ha! Finally, I realized, I can talk with my roommate, he knows Marx better than Marx, and he is the type to never back down from an intellectual discussion, which, for that reason, I rarely challenge him to.

"Utopia, its a wonderful thing," I suggested to spark his interest. He proceeded to be in his auto mode of ignoring everything and sandwich making until his hunger subsided and then he could function like a normal person again. I let him make his sandwich and halfway through I posed the same question, or lack of question but leading statement.

"Why do you say that?" He asked.

"I don't know, I guess cause I read Karl Marx' Communist Manifesto, and it seems like a fantastic idea, this whole utopian thing, but no one has really performed his rhetoric in order to really achieve a Utopian society. The Russians failed, the Chinese failed, and the United States is running the larges anti=communism platform that is winning, to me it seems like it may not be possible..."

I had sparked his inner ego, revolutionary rhetoric.

"You are right, its not going to happen via Russian or Chinese communism. Its not going to stem out of a collapse and revolution of world wide capitalism...these are all things that need to happen in order for his Utopian society to take place. The real revolution is pods of civilization that embody the principles, love, life, community. These pods will spring up all over the world, and eventually the pods with grow and join with other pods until the world becomes one big pod, and then my friend, is when you have a utopian society."

I was also taking a class on South American societies as it had mentioned but not elaborated on the Mayan civilization and how their calendar ends in 2012. I asked my roommate if he knew anything about that, and don't necessarily recall his answer. But my thoughts were brewing...If the Mayans predicted an end of an era, or end of the World, we must strive and fight for a way to unite humanity before this happens, or maybe that is exactly the plan, we have worked all this way, with wars, technology, hate, greed, but we forget our purpose, we forget that there is a Universe that we only play a small part of.

So what if we make a big impact on an infinite Universe? Positive energy resonates exponentially through and amongst aware or other enlightened individuals. Lets say two people are happy, they resonate positive energy out to the Universe as if one threw a pebble in a still pond. If you have a group of people resonating positivity the rock tossed into the pond is bigger, and thus the ripples are bigger. If you have enough people that are feeling enough positive energy we can create tidal waves of positive energy to swarm the planet, engulf the solar system and resonate throughout the Universe.

Thus World Town. Not just a party. In San Francisco its a pod that my brother and I took a gamble on. Harnessing music inspired by music from a woman growing up in a guerrilla warzone, fused with technology, visual provocation, and a few theories of positivity that seem to be intrinsically related to quantum physics, we have our first pod. My goal for World Town is to have the parties all over the Earth, taking it in any direction that one deems necessary to cultivate a group of people to celebrate unity, think about peace, dance to music and feel good all over. This energy will resonate back to the World, back to the other World Town parties taking place and we will feel a bond and a connection unlike any other. It will be so strong in so many different pods and will grow to the extent that World Town's World Party will not need to be planned, it will just be...and it will be glorious!

World Town's World Party set for sometime around December 2012, to save the World, to save humanity, to experience Peace in our lifetime. Do you want to start a World Town?

Our World Town party is back yet again now ever 2nd Saturday of the month at Roe in SF...We will be alternating from bringing in internationally renowned DJs one month and doing a CD release and local DJs the other month...This Saturday we will be releasing World Town Vol. 2 mixed by my brother available with a $1 donation to www.Blue4Peace.org a local and international movement for tangible PEACE in our lifetime...we will continue to partner with them and dedicate a portion of our proceeds to different causes for peace around the world...The theme is creativity and BLUE LIGHT, World issues, so come to reflect who you are, your causes and come to feel the most amazing energy you have ever felt in a night out as we incorporate a PEACE MINUTE at 12:30 where the whole club will go silent for 1 minute as we all concentrate on your own ideas of what you believe peace is! World Town is more than a party, its a movement and a flourishing environment for good energy to radiate positively to turn small ripples into large tidal waves that will have adverse and positive effects on the world in our lifetime!
