World Town Becomes the Cure

World Town is a fusion of ideas embodying our motto of 'an interactive global musical audio visual compassionate resistance.' It serves as an entity evolving beyond an capacity I can only dream of. Conceptualized by listening to M.I.A. while burning a fire in my backyard, it was the perfect hybrid of my brother's talents as a DJ and nightclub promoter and my background in International Affairs with passion to create positive social change in the world. We started with small parties in San Francisco and now aspire to put on events anywhere and everywhere in the world. From World Town pool parties in Miami, large scale benefits, rooftops in Dubai and World Town Waikiki for New Years 2010--we are exactly what the name entails--always supporting a good cause.

This Saturday, April 25th, 2009 World Town comes full circle and 'Becomes the Cure' as we host a benefit event for the O Campaign at Terra in SF. The O Campaign's mission statement is: A non-profit campaign forging alliances between the public, academia, corporations, and institutions in effort to efficiently channel resources for high-paced development of cutting-edge research in cancer prevention, while simultaneously spurring translation and delivery of innovative treatments to the public. With over 4.6 million members, The O Campaign serves as the largest social media cause on the internet.

The O Campaign has teamed up with World Town and Thalas Entertainment Group to put together a large scale benefit party to launch their grassroots fundraising programs. By doing so we intend to get the word out about their 501c3 federally registered non-profit status and raise funds in a transparent manner. For Become the Cure we rented out Terra, one of SF's most sophisticated gallery spaces and have orchestrated thousands of dollars in donations for the event. From the venue, the DJs and promotion, equipment, sponsors, independent restaurants, businesses and media outlets we plan on exceeding our fundraising goals for the O Campaign. Event in this strange economy, it has been great to see such a warm response and encouragement as we pressed forward to make this benefit happen!

Prices will be higher at the door, but ALL PROCEEDS, yes 100% of the money made that evening will go directly to the O Campaign. If all goes well, we will continue to work with the O Campaign and their grassroots online and event planning strategy to raise significant amounts of money needed in order to achieve their mission and actually find a cure for cancer! The O Campaing for Cancer Prevention

One in three people will suffer cancer in their lifetime. Like slavery and smallpox - cancer can one day also be overcome. However, the battle against cancer will not be won only through charity walks alone, nor only through facing cancer after it is found - but through uncovering the causes, earlier detection, and prevention.

The O Campaign for Cancer Prevention, dedicated to such a mission, will soon be embarking on several unique cancer initiatives that will empower everyone to contribute to this goal - not through our wallets - but rather our collective efforts to help launch the largest cancer study in our generation. MORNING METEORS: Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Thatcher, the source of the annual Lyrid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Wednesday, April 22nd, with a display of 10 to 20 meteors per hour over the northern hemisphere. Occasionally, Earth passes through a dense region of the comet's tail and rates surge five- to ten-fold. In 1982, for instance, observers were surprised by an outburst of 90 Lyrids per hour. Because Thatcher's tail has never been mapped in detail, the outbursts are unpredictable and could happen again at any time. LUNAR OCCULTATION OF VENUS: Even if the Lyrids fizzle, there is still something wonderful to see on Wednesday morning, April 22nd. The crescent Moon and Venus are going to have a close encounter of jaw-dropping beauty. Look low and to the east just before sunrise. Observers in western parts of North America will see a lunar occultation: Venus will disappear behind the Moon's limb just after 5 am PDT and reappear again an hour or so later. Sad Panda on Wall St. Dar Far Philosophy

Im in a loud coffee shop and can only see the image of the Sad Panda wandering the streets of NY's financial district. My thought implications surround the uneasiness of a financial system crumbled, capitalism confined to the dusty corners of a rusty hinged box hanging over the depths of an ominous ocean waiting to swallow it up. As the economy crumbles, what is left? LIFE! For the first time some people are seeing the true beauty in living, the sunshine and tasting food, shopping at farmers markets and reconnecting with family. For others, like me, who never joined the corporate sector, I am not necessarily happy to see it failing, but motivated to pick up the pieces. What didn't work? What does work? How can a whole race, or leaders of a race work so hard and so fast, developing technology, money and finance and a capitalistic ideology that emerged dominant in the world to no ultimate end. We must analyze what truly makes us happy. We all need to eat and have a roof over our heads, and we see how this is becoming more important as these notions become unclear for the first time. Philosophical ideologies that tried and failed, the way the world works, we don't learn from history, we simply let it repeat itself. Honest ideas and an honest approach to love and happiness, compassion. Its a hard idea to grasp because we can distract ourselves from it so easily. This is not a survival of the fittest, its letting love prevail.

SAN FRANCISCO, California: Thalas Entertainment Group and World Town present “Become the Cure” a 100% benefit event for the O Campaign Foundation, a 501(c)(3) full circle non-profit to Cure Cancer, on Saturday April 25th, 2009 from 9pm-1:30am, at Terra 511 Harrison in San Francisco, CA. Come mingle and party with innovators, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and scientists from Harvard, Stanford, and some of the fastest growing companies and organizations in the Bay Area. Joining us is very special guest DJ Trevor Simpson from Energy 92.7 and Aykut, DJ Nik, Nima G, and Jared F! 100% of proceeds from the event will go directly to the O Campaign Foundation.

During these challenging times, "Become the Cure" will be the Bay Area's most prominent example of what can be achieved through collaboration with successful grassroots promotions, social networking, new scientific breakthroughs, and a steadfast dedication to raise awareness and funds for a wonderful cause.

"Become the Cure" will dazzle with a VIP wine reception from 9-10pm, red carpet entry, a silent auction, hosted cocktail reception with live art and visuals in a captivating musical experience. Terra is a gorgeous lofted-ceiling event space and gallery with a spectacular view of downtown San Francisco through its 20’ x 40’ floor-to-ceiling windows. Terra has generously donated over $9,500 to help launch the event and will open its new bottom section for entry to the VIP reception! Terra is a 725 person gallery space with an outdoor patio lounge nestled below the Bay Bridge. On April 15th, ticket sales will go up to $48, then higher at the door the day of the event if not sold out. For $60, guests can purchase a limited number (200) of VIP tickets.
