Oh Tens--A New Decade!

Its too hard not to reminisce...I saw a SF Examiner front page headline that read, "Best and worst music of the decade." For real?! 2000 was just 10 years ago?! Y2k, that was before the Twin Towers were hit, when all us "Academia Liberals" based Bush for not being as good of an "Education President" as he promised in his campaigns Yeah, a decade. It was probably not even a decade ago that VH1 premiered its first "I Love the 80's" and we all (or at least all of us 'Generation X and Y'ers") remembered how oddly exciting it was to grow up in such a "strange" time. Our parents lived during the Cold War and we were all taught to hate Communism, grow up and go to college and get a decent job...But as we all went to college, those disgruntled and mildly "Academically Liberal" professors taught us how to view the governmental system in a different light, or many different lights, some even being Socialism and heaven forbid...Communism! Politics are a slower representation that what the populous feels. It is then put into a bureaucratic system that defines laws according to the times. However, as we get further advanced, our laws stay put, old and outdated and in order to correct something, it takes years of litigation, lobbying, money and proper execution to actually put something into legislation. But alas, that is our system, and I am happy to be free, able to make my money and travel, study the politics of the world, be an ambassador to whatever or whoever you may encounter on a day to day basis. And to this, a decade marked by academia, travel, leisure and a step towards change, I salute thee 2000's and welcome the Tens--just try not to call next year "Oh Ten."

Just sipped
Bad red wine.
Just touched
Dirty Damp Sock.
Disgusting
Delicious.
Concoctions,
Intriguing.
Like overpriced smog shops.
Delicate.
Like treading water beside thin ice.
Intricate.
Like artesian baskets woven for fair trade.
Intolerable.
Like incompatible systems to Western Capitalism.
Exonerated.
Like Exxon Valdez' offering green technology wisdom.
Penetrated.
Like rebel forces into Capitalistic markets.
Tumbled.
Like the weeds as we drove West.
Manifest.
Like the Destiny we created out of what was left.
Immigrated.
To new lands we left.

Dotting Ts and Crossing Freeways...

Does the moon stay up late and party in the day, hiding in the light of its counterpart--always waking up to do its job and shine bright for us at night? Wind blows weary through valleys of untouched virginity, cursed by mans lust for adulterous pleasure. Man has not created a way to measure the universe, vast yet tiny, introverted and extraordinary extroverted, how do we as humans cope?

Perverted.
Inner peace.
Inert "P"s.
In hurt piece.
Outer wars.
Overt Q's.

The Road Behind us as we travel FORword

“The road behind us as we travel forward:”

We can look back along the dusty path, two roads diverged from an urban jungle…
A spork in the road.
A path chosen that leads through ideas, innovation and technology
Strife, struggle, impulse, revolution—a superior risotto eating utensil
Documentation of all this somehow…and then we wonder.
A life full of wonder, a WONDERFUL life.
Can we SOLVE or DISSOLVE?
Financial planning problem solving dissolved like sea salt in Brita filtered water
To a history forgotten…but still exists, CAPITALISMO!
Unfair free trade, fair trade comes at is costs.
A new beginning in a culmination of progress
Powerful ideas.
Put to rest.
Come to life!
Because…“There is nothing more POWERFUL than an idea whose TIME has COME!
Jesus laughs as Buddha weeps
Both all knowing omniscient unconscious synonyms: Sun/God, ignorance is common, above antonyms, are just the norm, underground synonyms, then peace, now war.
Parallels…like train tracks, but what causes train wrecks?
Derails—freedom from the track.
Free by any means, freedom, it means!
Yesterday I was sitting at an infamous dive bar staring at its red bricks.
Realizing I never really read books.
I read Inscriptions on the wall
Red ink messages engraved on red bricks.
I continued to read.
Two question marks the spot
¿Que?
“X “marks the spot?
“What?”
And exclamations, the way its read, or the way we read it, or the color red.
Read red words on red bricks and tell your friends red bricked stories and how you read them on red bricks.
Tangible thoughts coming to life expectancy glistened…like morning dew drops—Listened…
Like she wanted me to…
Shooting stars in the distance dancing across our milky way
And…today I’ve FOUND my way!
But tomorrow I walk on longer, windy roads, leading to windy desert oases.
Windy windy roads of frosted memories.
Jogging to stay in shape, and remembering that just jogged my memory…
FIGMENTS of imagination, creating a MANIFESTATION OF THE PEACE
Is just one puzzle piece.
Please offer silence, one piece at a time.
Or, offer peace please.
Feel and seal the deal, our rights are freedom of thought, freedom to WRITE!
Though thought without the “t” its just a conjunction I propose a position
An omission of prose, cause I forgot the “T’s” in though(t)s {those} THOUGH’T’S,
So I guess they weren’t really THOSE THOUGHTS!
Y
Existe un momento…to feel an emotion entre tiempo y espacio…
Space vs. Time
¿Pero cuantos….e quando?
Tangible vs. Intangible
Nonsensical pain and pleasure: enlightenment nirvana, black white, suffering and non suffering…all…possible…Even plausible!
Sitting ovations oddly applausable.
Performances appeasable, palpable, edible and even palatable.
We will always have love and sacrifice…
Are you afraid, or a frayed knot?
I am NOT afraid.
You are a knot tied to the pillars of untangled tangible philosophies neglected by people who never quite respected your analogies
Monologues are left unspoken to be read in your secret diaries.
Burn the edges to seal in security. Lock out insecurity.
No longer a frayed knot.
No longer afraid, I am NOT.

Combining Favorites

As a kid, I always dreamed of the store that would specialize in Pizza and Milkshakes. A hole in the wall place that would serve greasy new york style slices where you fold them and the grease drips out the back served up with a think chocolate shake where there is more deliciousness in the silver tin than the traditional milkshake glass. As an adult, I still crave that combo, but I have finally found two of my new favorite things combined: plants and coffee.

Out in the Bayshore district one of SF's best coffee shops, Ritual Roasters, has teamed up with a budding new garden designer, Flora Grubb. Not only can you shop for succulents and drink your succulent mocha decorated with latte art, but you can hang out and chat about the knowledgeable staff and learn about vertacle gardens. From now until August 31st if you buy 12oz bag of Ritual beans you get a free tillsdia plant, talk about combinations of favorites!

'Revolutioning Ain't Easy'

Revolution can't come at once and won't come easy

And, may or may not be televised.

Philosophies beyond most of our comprehension were once contrived.

Hundreds if not thousands of years ago

And are not put into practice.

Or practiced by evil men, who in turn, butcher them.

Natural laws that dictate the Universe.

Men who feel compelled to maintain the status quo.

Absolut vodka gets you drunk absolutely.

Greedy individuals drown out with the smart ones.

And the smart ones drown our sorrows.

And....the masses, always following a few steps behind

Ever so slowly.

Right Write

What I should really do is write...do what's right? What is right when my world has been so left? Political views that skew far left like the things I've left behind. One nation under pressure, one individual under my own strain nothing except trying to build my name, its an insane game, establish my repertoire as things come down to the wire. Lets start to list the things I desire: simplicity, happiness, bliss, the ability to relax and be honest, a passionate kiss, watching people mix. What more to life than never to miss, exist.

Never a Cat so Clever as Magical Mr Mistoffelees

Satin sheets pinned up along pinwheel streets
Segregating pin ups from monotony
Mahogany's hard surface overcomes ones ability to surpass
Serpents lurk in dark corners where I was once, a dunce
But no longer wearing coned hats I frolic in the streets with alley cats
Magical like Mr Mistoffelees
On Broadway for centuries
Reading and writing staying alive never uttering eulogies
But please
Times are tough
Our wallets feel the squeeze
And...Swine Disease
Infecting our families
Lament.
Sorrow...
Despair.
News Flash !
Why dont we just REPAIR?
Take care like an Au Pair
Watching stock markets crash like prototypes
We have abilities beyond our wildest dreams like talking for free on Skype
Charmin ultra soft to wipe
Clean up the mess
Government chaos and stress
I guess...I digress....

Bringing it back on point
Sometimes 1 for a free throw, or 6 for a touchdown, or negative 1 for a birde like Hale Irwin
Golfs lowest score wins
The earth revolves around the way the universe spins
Sometime frowns upside down can be perceived as grins
The Grinch stole Christmas but the Who ultimately win
Whoville is triumphant and happy versus wall streets pathetic chagrin
America, economic Ti-an?
More like economic Ti-tan-ic
We've already panicked
Lets try to not be manic

Impressive not Depressive
Innovative and Creative
Amaze
Clear the Purple Haze
Find yourself in the puzzling maze
And achieve greatness in the midst of a craze
We are the glaze
A new road to pave

A Vetted Word

I sit here and enjoy my blueberry green tea with a squeeze of my friend's backyard garden lemon listening to a 1995 CD of Govi, a Spanish Acoutsic Guitar Afficionado. My girlfriend's Japanese Chin stares fictitiously out the Oakland French Door windows onto my backyard laden with stencils, fold out chairs, agave plants, 3 strands of mint in a garden to spice up my culinary and cocktail life, a compost pile, and 2-7 alley cats on a given day. As my tea steeps I peel a clemintine and bite into its sweet and small delicious fruit that seems reminiscent of my Grandma' house in Southern California we would visit every spring break. Living in Oakland, I can see all the Californiaisms come into play as I am simply living my life. My bamboo plant grows in my living room carefully placed next to my dollar store candle, buddha board and incense chamber I purchased at the African essential oils store. They are meticulously are placed in that order to represent the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water and Air. It is my line of zen, where I often stare down from my favorite seat at our table. It is the perfect spot that lies in direct harmony of how I see the energy flow in my living room. My brother, a talented DJ, has provided the room with a top notch sound system that circulates the energy and pings all of the senses to make our house come alive. Its almost ironic because I I like to utilize that system to hear more precisely my collection of New Age music. These symphonic melodies transport my mind and my thoughts to wander the universe in a constant meditation. Whether its in my living room writing a sentimental self-reflection piece, or chatting with a club owner about getting the energy level up at our party in a San Francisco hotspot, I live my life to feel these sensations, frequencies in energy and nuances of a collective universe that humanity has eternally searched for. Often dubbed by religion or spirituality, there is much more to be perceived than what man is capable of understanding--thus generations of soul seekers have labeled it God. God is a simplistic rendition of an omniscient being that is given this all knowing, all loving title to explain phenomenon that occur in our Universe. And thus, God, in one word challenged and contemplated on all levels, not just one word, a vetted word.

World Town Becomes the Cure

Represent your World Town
www.becomethecure.org
April 25, 2009

World Town is a fusion of ideas embodying our motto of 'an interactive global musical audio visual compassionate resistance.' It serves as an entity evolving beyond an capacity I can only dream of. Conceptualized by listening to M.I.A. while burning a fire in my backyard, it was the perfect hybrid of my brother's talents as a DJ and nightclub promoter and my background in International Affairs with passion to create positive social change in the world. We started with small parties in San Francisco and now aspire to put on events anywhere and everywhere in the world. From World Town pool parties in Miami, large scale benefits, rooftops in Dubai and World Town Waikiki for New Years 2010--we are exactly what the name entails--always supporting a good cause.

This Saturday, April 25th, 2009 World Town comes full circle and 'Becomes the Cure' as we host a benefit event for the O Campaign at Terra in SF. The O Campaign's mission statement is: A non-profit campaign forging alliances between the public, academia, corporations, and institutions in effort to efficiently channel resources for high-paced development of cutting-edge research in cancer prevention, while simultaneously spurring translation and delivery of innovative treatments to the public. With over 4.6 million members, The O Campaign serves as the largest social media cause on the internet.

The O Campaign has teamed up with World Town and Thalas Entertainment Group to put together a large scale benefit party to launch their grassroots fundraising programs. By doing so we intend to get the word out about their 501c3 federally registered non-profit status and raise funds in a transparent manner. For Become the Cure we rented out Terra, one of SF's most sophisticated gallery spaces and have orchestrated thousands of dollars in donations for the event. From the venue, the DJs and promotion, equipment, sponsors, independent restaurants, businesses and media outlets we plan on exceeding our fundraising goals for the O Campaign. Event in this strange economy, it has been great to see such a warm response and encouragement as we pressed forward to make this benefit happen!

Tickets for this incredible event are on sale for $35 at http://www.going.com/becomethecure until tomorrow. Prices will be higher at the door, but ALL PROCEEDS, yes 100% of the money made that evening will go directly to the O Campaign. If all goes well, we will continue to work with the O Campaign and their grassroots online and event planning strategy to raise significant amounts of money needed in order to achieve their mission and actually find a cure for cancer! If you cannot make the event, join our cause and Donate $1 to the O Campaign (www.ocampaign.org) and help get this movement off the ground! Please visit the Become the Cure website for more info. Thank you all for reading, and I hope you take this event fueled by talent and passion combined to heart as so many people can resonate with the cause. Have a fantastic weekend, I hope to see you at World Town: Become the Cure or a World Town event coming to your part of the world in the near future!

Peace and Love,

Trent

The O Campaing for Cancer Prevention

Dear Supporters of the O Campaign for Cancer Prevention,
(Twitter: http://twitter.com/OCampaign)

One in three people will suffer cancer in their lifetime. Like slavery and smallpox - cancer can one day also be overcome. However, the battle against cancer will not be won only through charity walks alone, nor only through facing cancer after it is found - but through uncovering the causes, earlier detection, and prevention.

The O Campaign for Cancer Prevention, dedicated to such a mission, will soon be embarking on several unique cancer initiatives that will empower everyone to contribute to this goal - not through our wallets - but rather our collective efforts to help launch the largest cancer study in our generation. Please stay tuned to upcoming activities, and updates from our Twitter feed ( http://twitter.com/OCampaign) .

Meanwhile, the O Campaign, as the first 501c3 non-profit inspired by Causes on Facebook, is hosting a special premiere - Become the Cure, a 100% charity benefit gala for the O Campaign - on Saturday April 25th in San Francisco. http://www.becomethecure.org/ We strongly encourage supporters in the California area to please attend the event.

In the spirit of the OCampaign premiere, we are launching a week long $10,000 fund raising drive on Causes ( http://apps.facebook.com/causes/... so help support us, as we power our way to the cure!

Check the Sky Tonight...Lyrid Meteor Shower!

Space Weather News for April 21, 2009
http://spaceweather.com

MORNING METEORS: Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Thatcher, the source of the annual Lyrid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Wednesday, April 22nd, with a display of 10 to 20 meteors per hour over the northern hemisphere. Occasionally, Earth passes through a dense region of the comet's tail and rates surge five- to ten-fold. In 1982, for instance, observers were surprised by an outburst of 90 Lyrids per hour. Because Thatcher's tail has never been mapped in detail, the outbursts are unpredictable and could happen again at any time. The best time to look, no matter where you live, is during the dark hours before dawn on Wednesday morning April 22nd. Visit http://spaceweather.com for full coverage.

LUNAR OCCULTATION OF VENUS: Even if the Lyrids fizzle, there is still something wonderful to see on Wednesday morning, April 22nd. The crescent Moon and Venus are going to have a close encounter of jaw-dropping beauty. Look low and to the east just before sunrise. Observers in western parts of North America will see a lunar occultation: Venus will disappear behind the Moon's limb just after 5 am PDT and reappear again an hour or so later. Details may be found in this Science@NASA story: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/17apr_lyrids.htm

Sad Panda on Wall St. Dar Far Philosophy

Im in a loud coffee shop and can only see the image of the Sad Panda wandering the streets of NY's financial district. My thought implications surround the uneasiness of a financial system crumbled, capitalism confined to the dusty corners of a rusty hinged box hanging over the depths of an ominous ocean waiting to swallow it up. As the economy crumbles, what is left? LIFE! For the first time some people are seeing the true beauty in living, the sunshine and tasting food, shopping at farmers markets and reconnecting with family. For others, like me, who never joined the corporate sector, I am not necessarily happy to see it failing, but motivated to pick up the pieces. What didn't work? What does work? How can a whole race, or leaders of a race work so hard and so fast, developing technology, money and finance and a capitalistic ideology that emerged dominant in the world to no ultimate end. We must analyze what truly makes us happy. We all need to eat and have a roof over our heads, and we see how this is becoming more important as these notions become unclear for the first time. Philosophical ideologies that tried and failed, the way the world works, we don't learn from history, we simply let it repeat itself. Honest ideas and an honest approach to love and happiness, compassion. Its a hard idea to grasp because we can distract ourselves from it so easily. This is not a survival of the fittest, its letting love prevail.

Coffe President

I Like My Coffee How I Like My Presidents

by Trent Hartman

I like my coffee how I like my Presidents. Shade grown in Indonesia and cultivated on the hills of pacific islands, or grown by ancestors in the heartland of Kenya, the cradle of human civilization. Picked, dried and roasted by hand on what were once large coca fields, now running profitable organic ventures. I like my coffee like I like my President, drinking it first thing in the morning and digested with a glimmer of freedom knowing that is why I am a citizen of this world.

Fairly Traded to be consumed by an alleged free market from all parts of the world sometimes for $4.28 a cup. A marked up price attempted possibly batched by a bad barista, or so inorganically streamlined that you are assured it will get your day going. Or served from your

favorite cafe, by your best friend and barista who creates a simple cup of joe into a masterpiece. A delicious latte with a good friend, profound, articulate and innovative conversation to spark ideas that caress your eagerness to follow your dreams. I like my coffee like I like my Presidents, shared with cobblers and tailors, artists and CEOs at cafes around the world, short pulled espresso shots or hot and sweet like a Cuban cigar, sticky and dark like a Turkish or mastered to perfection with a small hand crafted dessert morsel.

I like my coffee like I like my President, economically bailed out or not, I still need it everyday, all day, and even sometimes at night, its the reassuring blend of filtered and roasted goodness that I am addicted to.

I like my coffee how I like my Presidents, black, bold and in the morning!

We Are World Town

We Are World Town.

As we see the economic and political structure collapse around us and the elected officials have no idea how to fix it, we need to understand our role as a generation of innovators filled with new ideas, motivation and the capacity to fix the problems that have been cultivating for generations.

We can no longer afford to attack our enemies with conventional war to change a political structure that is not mastered to begin with. We can no longer afford to finance one enemy to help take down another, and then pretend to let the enemy go when they turn our back on us. There should no longer be this theory of enemy, conflict and war. We are World Town.

We can no longer afford to watch our savings disappear into thin air and then hold no one accountable. Hard working men and women raised in the generation of glory that emerged victorious as a powerful ideology that flourished, until now. A generation that dedicated their lives to this belief and raised our generation under this notion of financial prosperity, consumerism, technology and work. And for what? Depression?

Countries came and went as old ideologies were crushed into the books of history and new ideologies were laughed at and pushed aside.

Until now...Because, We Are World Town.

We are World Town because we see the way the world works. We are no longer a country with patriotism or a culture with defined values. We are a world intermingling with millions of communities, cultures, languages, religions, beliefs, values and traditions. We must unite these amazing nuances of our collective human race. We must work together instead of as an individual or a corporate or governmental machine. We must encourage artists, read poetry, raise our hands at our leaders and speak out so that we can be HEARD! This is our time to pick up the rubble of the world that is made of sticks, we must show the world that we are even better than a house of bricks. Do your part and we will see how the vision can be true, we are alive we are World Town!!!!!!

Love Comprehension

Comprehension of love...you make me comprehend love to an extent where I feel it from the depths of the cells in my body to the extension of my thoughts into the Universe. You make me feel at ease and comfortable with myself so that I can manifest these vast thoughts into ideas or emotions. And these ideas and emotions are an extension of the love I feel for you. Our love is not simple a word spoken to one another, its pure energy in motion, set out to conquer evil and resonate from a blade of grass to distant galaxies. Love is. Love is you. Love is everything.

The Hope Transparancy

When it comes to transparency and government, the truth seems quite opaque
Never too late with a greater risk to take
A task at hand never too great
For the rise of the proletariat is inevitable, no need to wait!

To ultimately meet our fate.

its pathetic.

But there within lies between the weary lies and the truth between a hopeful mans eyes and a cultivation of when the people WILL rise.

Hopefully, hope.

Contemplation

I sit here contemplating the juxtaposition between a pine tree in autumn and a deciduous tree...one holds remains true to its identity while the other evokes a delicate changing beauty that harmonizes with the season and our mood as humans as it drops its leaves on the ground casting its biodegradable blanket onto the Earth's surface below.
